Ready to get serious about beautiful design? MADE London — the capital’s roaming design and craft fair — is back, bringing together fashion and homeware from 100 handpicked makers under one glittering glass roof. Find ceramics, textiles, jewellery, silver, gold, leather goods, furniture, bags, clothing and accessories from the best in the business.
From Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 March, Canary Wharf’s East Wintergarden — the stunning glass-and-marble dome sandwiched between all the skyscrapers — transforms into a design lover’s paradise. It’s free entry and many of the makers are on hand to discuss and demonstrate their work. But if you can’t wait until then, here’s some of the names to watch out for.
Anthony Gray Furniture
Handcrafted from the finest materials, Anthony Gray Furniture is about as far from a flimsy flatpack as you can get. The eponymous designer creates elegant tables, quirky lamps, and other stylish pieces with his dad in their Essex workshop — they have over 60 years combined of cabinet-making experience.
Fancy upping your tableware game? Look no further than Brett Payne, a silversmith for the 21st century. All of his bold and contemporary pieces are individually hotforged by hand in sterling silver.
South London-based jewellery designer Laura Nelson takes overlooked textures from the natural world as her inspiration. A trip to Carse Bay in Scotland inspired a range of the same name — drawing from patterns left in the sand during low tide.
Here’s one for art-loving London fans (a group which, considering you clicked on this article, probably includes you). Linescapes creates intricately-detailed CAD architectural portraits of iconic buildings and landmarks — and there’s plenty of the capital up for grabs.
Renowned textile artist and designer Margo Selby pushes the boundaries of weaving to create modern structural and graphic fabrics for a range of applications. Wear them, sit on them, or even hang them on your wall.
If any of those piqued your interest, get yourself down to East Wintergarden and explore all the treasures on offer. With Canary Wharf’s beautifully landscaped open spaces, stunning Crossrail Roof Garden and outdoor art — not to mention nearly 200 shops, bars, and restaurants — nearby, go ahead and make a day of it.
MADE London Canary Wharf: The Design and Craft Fair takes place Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 March, 11am-6pm at East Wintergarden, Canary Wharf and is admission free.
